Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX
853 PM CST Fri Dec 30 2016 .DISCUSSION... A coastal trough was already forming along the immediate coast. Winds over the Gulf waters were out of the southeast while those over the coastal counties were out of the east. ACARS and 00Z upper air sounding sites all show a very dry layer around 850 mb. Through the remainder of the night, the column will continue to moisten as a surface high pressure area retreats eastward from the northwestern Gulf and a surface low forms along the developing coastal trough. The ongoing forecast was mainly on target. Did some adjustments to temperatures over the northwestern counties given the very dry dewpoints in that area and do expect some evaporative cooling to occur as light rain falls out of the mid level cloud deck and through the dry air just above and at the surface. Also took out the patchy fog for most of the night as the dewpoints may take a while to get high enough for sea fog formation to begin over the continental shelf nearshore waters. 40 && .PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 620 PM CST Fri Dec 30 2016/ AVIATION...
