Mesaba Supplemental PIREPs - Update

I just wanted to post some preliminary information on the supplemental paper PIREPs we are receiving from Mesaba Airlines: As of March 15, 2005 we have a total of 1437 pireps. These PIREPs are divided between three different flight modes climb (481), cruise (530), and descent (423). Icing Breakdown: None = 1204 Trace = 138 Trace-Light = 4 Light = 68 Light-Mod = 5 Moderate = 18 Turbulence Breakdown: None = 1031 Light = 381 Light-Mod = 10 Moderate = 15 Along with the information listed above we are also getting good information on the estimated altitude of cloud tops (over 728 of the pireps have cloud top information), temperature, and whether the aircraft was in or out of cloud. Some of the pilots have also been utilizing the comments section of the PIREP form. While not every one of the PIREPs has comments, the ones that due usually gives very valuable information. We are very happy with the response we are getting from Mesaba Airlines on this PIREP collection program and hope to see many more in the next couple of months.
