More TAMDAR data available to US government

Given the threat of landfall from Hurricane Gustav and Hanna to the U.S. coast, AirDat has authorized the immediate release of its entire TAMDAR fleet's sounding observations to NOAA. TAMDAR has recently started collecting soundings which include temperature, dew point (humidity), and wind parameters over the north Gulf of Mexico coast (airports served include IAH, LFT, AEX, BTR, MSY, MLU, PIB, BFM (Mobile)). These data are now available to U.S. Government users through the GSD AMDAR Java Page: http://amdar.noaa.gov/java/ and also through the RUC soundings page at http://rucsoundings.noaa.gov/ (choose data source: 'Aircraft').

These data are being made available for evaluation purposes through an agreement with AIRDAT through December 31, 2008. WFOs and NCs are encouraged to include references to TAMDAR observations in their Area Forecast Discussions and, as time permits, include in case studies that are developed when TAMDAR data are available as part of a feedback/assessment agreement with AirDat.

Many thanks to Jay Ladd at AirDat for making their entire TAMDAR fleet available during this high-risk event.
